  World Series - 1992

Going way back to 1992, the Toronto Blue Jays play in the world series against the Atlanta braves. During a game in Atlanta the American color guard comes out with the Canadian flag upsidedown.

Artik Baseball media story

At Artik we jumped on the idea and did a T-shirt explaining how the Canadian Flag should be displayed.

The story got picked up by many American and Canadian networks, CNN, The Toronto Sun, City TV, being pre-internet world the action we got were phone calls, faxes, and mail. many orders came from all over Canada and the U.S. and everyone was having a bit of fun with this. The happy ending is that the Toronto Blue Jays went on to win the world series 4 to 2 and be the first team to win outside the U.S. The Blue Jays won again in 1993.

  2009 - Billy Bob Thornton

Billy Bob Thornton silly interview with CBC's Jian Ghomeshi - he refuses to answer questions and says Canadian audiences just sit there and are like mashed potatoes without gravy. Here is a light hearted Billy Bob Thornton T-shirt response. This again hit the Media with the Toronto Sun featuring it in a couple sections and many news organizations picking it online. As a result, thousands of people visited artik.com

Billy Bob Thornton and his band The Boxmasters visited the CBC radio show Q. Right from the beginning it was obvious that something was wrong, Billy Bob acts like he cannot understand the most basic questions. Later he goes off topic and rambles on about nothing. As a Canadian watching this interview I was at first amused but as it went on I found it less funny and more mean spirited. Jian Ghomeshi was patient polite and indulged the big stars nonsense. Unfortunately an ego this size is hard to sooth. At one point Billy Bob talks about Canadian audiences just sitting there not throwing things like in the US - dull like mashed potatoes without gravy. Well my thought is that we would love to throw some big ego right out of Canada, unfortunately he couldn't handle some boos and high tailed out of Canada already. Well at least we have a T-shirt to remember this fun event.
No hard feelings Billy Bob it is all in good fun, own up to it and apologize to Jian Ghomeshi and Canadians and all will be forgotten.

  We Love the TTC

Here is how the story was covered by:

A local Toronto company is working to bring peace between the public and the TTC.

What better way than wearing an 'I Love TTC' button. Artik is offering 500 free buttons, suggesting commuters wear the buttons and offer the TTC staff a button. We believe all sides have to rise to the challenge and step back from the fight and bring some peace to this dispute.

Since the photos of a TTC driver, sleeping on the job, were published, the fight between TTC employees and the public has been intensifying. Accusations, Facebook groups and lots of hurt feelings. This morning reading my newspaper I was imagining how the tensions play out. How commuters mutter obscenities under their breath, how drivers speed away leaving a commuter running to the door to wait in the freezing cold for the next bus or street car. Nobody wins.

How unfortunate, here in peaceful Toronto, two groups of working people making each others already hard lives just a bit harder.

Wake Up! It's February in Toronto, it is freezing, it is gray, it is downright miserable. All we have left is our human connection to cheer each other up. Let's declare PEACE.

Let's give peace an option, OK that sounds bad,
Give Peace a chance.

But How:

Start by wearing one of these buttons, the cost is FREE! We are giving 500 buttons. Anyone coming into Artik can take one for yourself and another to give to a TTC employee! Come in to pick them up while supplies last.

Send the message of love and peace and a warm smile to bring some sunshine to Toronto in February.
